Workshop Talks





We are looking forward to welcoming you all to Carlow in April 2022 to take part in our weekend of amateur radio activities. As part of the weekend we are delighted to announce 4 workshop talks for Saturday 9th April 2022 in the Morrison Suite of the Woodford Dolmen Hotel.

Admission to all talks is free.

On Saturday morning we will be holding 1 Workshop Talk.

Workshop Talk 1 - 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

On Saturday afternoon we will be holding 3 additional Workshop Talks.

Workshop Talk 2 - 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Workshop Talk 3 - 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Workshop Talk 4 - 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Saturday Morning

Workshop Talk 1 - 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.


Introduction to Amateur Television with Justin G8YTZ / EI3IOB

This talk will provide an overview of the latest developments in Digital Amateur Television, including an update on UK activity There will be a live demonstration of the BATC Raspberry Pi based Portsdown DATV transmit system using a LimeSDR mini and the MiniTiouner USB receive system.











Saturday Afternoon


Workshop Talk 2 - 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.


VHF DX with Roger EI8KN / G4NRG

Roger is the IRTS VHF / Microwave Manager.
His presentation will provide an overview of various modes of operation and types of propagation that can be used to obtain significantly greater communication distances at VHF.











Workshop Talk 3 - 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.



The Southern Ireland Repeater Network with John EI7IG

John is a member of the Southern Ireland Repeater Group and assists with maintenance and development. His presentation will give an overview of the network from its inception to present day and draws on the pictures, memory's and notes of a large group of Amateur Radio operators that have been involved over the years.

Amateur Radio Emergency Network (AREN) with John EI2GN

John is the AREN National Coordinator. In this presentation he will be explaining what AREN do and also asking the question “Outside of the AREN group, are there operators living in their community who already have skills and equipment who can play a role in EmComm?”
